The World Amateur Chess Championship offers some special prizes, unlike many other events.

One of special awards comes from FIDE directly, where the top overall player will be granted the title of FIDE Master (FM) with a rating of 2200. It is irrelevant if this winner is male or female as female players are eligible for this as well.

The top female player (or in the case if the overall winner is female, then the 2nd place female player) will be granted the title of Woman FIDE Master (WFM) with a rating of 2050. The second and third place winner in the overall section will receive a rating of 2100 and 2050 respectively.

Normally for someone to achieve the title of FM, they must achieve a published rating of 2300. To achieve the title of WFM, a female player must achieve a published rating of 2100.

In addition to the title of World Amateur Champion and World Woman's Amateur Champion, the titles, the rating, we also are proud to have 2 Texas Tech Scholarships, provided to the event by the SPICE program, to the top male and female performer under the age of 26. Each scholarship has a value of up to $36,000 USD. Winners must meet all eligibility requirements of Texas Tech University.

As more special prizes become available we will continue to post them.
